Government and Disability Discrimination

Believe it or not even till this day disability discrimination still exists. Sadly the term “nobody’s perfect” and “don’t judge a book by its cover” wasn’t enough for us as a human being to throw away those discrimination. Persons with disabilities face discrimination and barriers that restrict them from participating in society on an equal basis with others every day. They are denied their rights to be included in the general school system, to be employed, to live independently in the community, to move freely, to vote, to participate in sport and cultural activities, to enjoy social protection, to access justice, to choose medical treatment and to enter freely into legal commitments such as buying and selling property. Therefore, government must facilitate persons with disabilities.

If government willing enough to facilitate disability person, it is possible that disabilities can live independently. Government must act bold through social services. Facilitating disability person can come from transportation department such as make a special line for disabilities both in ticket line and when inside the public transportation. Facilitating disability person as in public place like in a park, walk through stair, or walk across a street can be implemented by adding more social service employee that always accompany disability person. Government also can implementing automated serviced to help disability person by doing research in advance technology.

Besides helping disability in daily day tasks, government also have the responsibility to Encourage disabilities to more productive. Government aware of the law UUD 1945 article 27 subsection (2) that stated each citizen have the right to work and have a decent living. Which mean giving the government responsibility to create social program for training and improving skill for person with disability. For starters government can have some volunteers that can work for training institutes that train a disability person. By having sufficient skills, hopefully a disability person can live independently in the community and can actively work in accordance with their respective capabilities.

After the government already implementing disability act program, now government must act to remove disability discrimination. For example if a disabled student have to take the same test method for a normal student I’ll become hard for the disabled student to pass the test. This is where the government need to change by creating a new law and method for disabled student while taking a test this idea hopefully make a disabled student equal to a normal student. That is just a small example of disability discrimination government need to act bold to minimize or remove it completely this plague on our society.

From three main points above, we can see that there is still lack of government involvement in facilitating disability person. While our society isn’t helping either, there is still discrimination among people with disability. But there is still hope government can act bold to remove this plague by creating a “disability friendly” public service, create a social program which training disability to be more productive, and government must act to remove disability discrimination in our society. Therefore we can also act to remove this by volunteering to social service, or by a donation to help and make world for a better place.
